Wednesday, 20th of May 2026

A team of 15 students represented Sri Lanka at the 41st Thailand International Folklore Festival & Competition, held from April 4th to 10th, following an invitation from the Energy Technology Transfer for World Peace Center and the festival’s organising body.

This international programme is designed to elevate global appreciation for artistic talent while encouraging youth engagement in cultural and scientific exchange. It is supported through collaboration with institutions such as the University of Maryland, the Thailand International Folklore Festival organisation, LPS Technology College of Thailand, and Bulacan Agricultural State College in the Philippines. The initiative also focuses on nurturing values like faith, inner peace, and wisdom, inspiring young participants to become ambassadors for global peace.

As part of the festival, participants took part in a six-day leadership camp that included religious observances and meditation sessions aimed at fostering discipline and personal growth. The programme also involved visits to several provinces, including Chachoengsao, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Lopburi. These visits allowed participants to connect with local communities and explore culturally and historically significant sites.

A key highlight of the festival was the international dance competition, which featured performances inspired by religious teachings and traditional literature. The Gateway College Kandy troupe delivered three distinct performances across different venues, each captivating audiences with its originality and artistry. Based on their exceptional performances throughout the event, the team was awarded first place, along with honours for excellence and best costumes.
