At APIIT School of Computing, research is viewed as far more than an academic requirement. It reflects the institution’s commitment to lifelong learning and its dedication to nurturing graduates who can think critically, solve real-world problems, and make meaningful contributions to the rapidly evolving field of technology. In line with this vision, the School of Computing successfully hosted InnovateX 2026, its annual research poster symposium, providing undergraduate students with a platform to present their research ideas and innovative projects.
The event, organized for the third consecutive time, brought together students from Software Engineering and Computing disciplines, enabling them to showcase their work through professionally designed research posters. The symposium is designed to cultivate a strong research culture among students by encouraging innovation, critical thinking, and effective communication of research outcomes.
Through interactions with experienced evaluators, participants received valuable feedback that helped strengthen both their research and presentation skills. InnovateX also serves as a bridge between academia and industry, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional networking opportunities that prepare students for future careers in research and technology. This year’s symposium featured student participants from APIIT Sri Lanka, Curtin Colombo, and Universal College Lanka, further strengthening inter-institutional engagement and collaboration.
The research posters were assessed by a distinguished panel comprising senior academics and industry experts, ensuring a balance of academic rigor and industry relevance. The esteemed judging panel included Dr. Dhananjay Kulkarni, Provost of Universal College Lanka; Dr. Umanga Pilapitiya, Acting Head of Computing at Curtin Colombo; Thilina Abeyrathna, Principal Software Architect at Altrium; Madhusha Guruge, Senior Product Manager at Dialog Enterprise Marketplace; Lahiru Wijesekara, Senior Solution Architect at Nagarro; and Lakindu Hewawasam, Technical Lead at Surge Global.

The symposium concluded with the presentation of participation certificates to all student researchers, while special awards were presented for Best Poster, Most Innovative Idea, and Best Research. The event celebrated not only academic excellence but also the creativity, curiosity, and innovation demonstrated by the next generation of computing professionals. Through initiatives such as InnovateX, APIIT School of Computing continues to strengthen its research culture and provide students with opportunities to engage in meaningful inquiry, collaborate with industry professionals, and develop solutions that address contemporary technological challenges.
