
Richmond College Wins 39th All-Island Inter-School Chemistry Quiz Competition of Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.
Richmond College, Galle emerged victorious at the 39th All-Island Inter-School Chemistry Quiz Competition (ISCQ), organized by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (IChemC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The competition, aimed at enhancing students’ interest in Chemistry and strengthening their understanding of fundamental concepts, was held on May 26, 2026, at the newly built IChemC Malabe Campus.
Sixteen schools from across the island were selected for the final stage following a nationwide preliminary round conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Education. Thirteen schools ultimately participated in the final competition.
Based on two written selection tests conducted during the day, four schools qualified for the afternoon oral round. These were Richmond College, Galle; Vembadi Girls’ High School, Jaffna; Seewali Maha Vidyalaya, Ratnapura; and Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy.
In a closely contested final round, Richmond College secured first place, while Vembadi Girls’ High School claimed second place.
The event was organised by the IChemC Interschool Chemistry Quiz Committee, chaired by Dr. C. N. Ratnaweera (University of Ruhuna). The quiz master was Dr. Sashipraba Withanaachchi (University of Colombo).
The competition once again highlighted the growing enthusiasm for Chemistry among school students across Sri Lanka and the importance of academic initiatives in nurturing future scientists.
