4TH ZAHIRA COLLEGE PAST CRICKETERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP 2018

The Past Cricketers Association (PCA) of Zahira College is gearing up to host its fourth annual PCA Cricket Championship 2018 at the Moors SC ground in Colombo on August 11. The PCA is prepared to pick up their high intensity cricket action from where they left off last year, when Raihan Rifkan smashed a last-ball six which helped Knight Riders (2012/13 Batch) clinch the title. The uniquely designed event has attracted more than 150 past cricketers of Zahira to share the dressing room with their former team mates enabling them to bring back the best memories.

Whilst this Encounter is designed to promote fellowship of the cricket fraternity of the old boys of Zahira, there is fair representation of all age groups spanning from teams which represented college in the 1960’s through to the 1990’s. The competition gets highly fired up with the inclusion of youngsters representing almost all the team’s post year 2000. The outgoing President of PCA, Mazhar Zuhair, believes that Zairians have always been passionate sportsmen. Zuhair is confident that they can support college to re-ignite its cricket standards as it was in the mid 1980’s and 90’s where Zahira regularly featured amongst the top five schools in rankings.

“In fact I believe this cricket encounter is happening at the right time where scores of past cricketers are getting together to show support and solidarity to the college team which had one of the most challenging seasons last year. We are also thrilled to have many old boys flying in from across the world to be a part of this glamorous event,” Zuhair stated. Project Chairman Shiham Zuhair is thrilled with the support and encouragement he has been getting from the organising committee and from members and especially from sponsors. Mobil Lubricants of McLaren’s Group has come forward as the principal sponsor while Home Depot, Brand point, GoSonic and ExpoLanka (EFL) are the co-sponsor this event. The PCA has also received support from many more partners and well-wishes for which they are grateful and look forward to everyone’s support in the future as well.
