Ten-year-old prodigy Abhiman Abeywardena of Lyceum International School, Anuradhapura produced a stunning performance to emerge as the runaway champion of the Boys’ Copper Division at the Prima Sunrise Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2026 with a commanding nine-stroke victory at the historic Nuwara Eliya Golf Club.
Representing Golf Club Anuradhapura (GCA), the talented youngster displayed exceptional consistency and maturity throughout the three-day tournament in the 10-and- Under category. Abhiman carded impressive rounds of 36, 36 and a brilliant final round of 32 to finish with an outstanding gross aggregate of 104.
The young golfer from Lyceum International School, Anuradhapura attracted attention with the calm and composed manner in which he handled one of Sri Lanka’s most challenging golf courses. While several competitors struggled to adapt to the tricky greens and changing hill country conditions, Abhiman improved steadily round after round and produced the best score of the division in the final round.
The defining moment of the tournament came in the final round when he fired a superb 32, underlining his ability to raise his game under pressure — a quality often seen in future champions. Dihein J.R. Witharana finished runner-up with a total score of 113, while Thisura Nayana Premarathana secured third place with an aggregate of 115.
