Linguistic Excellence Celebrated at Lyceum Assessments Spelling Bee National Championship 2026
The highly anticipated Final Championship of the Spelling Bee National Championship 2026, organised by Lyceum Assessments (PVT) Ltd, suc- cessfully concluded on the 16th and 17th of May at the National Institute of Education (NIE) Auditorium in Maharagama. Fostering a profound love for language, the prestigious two day event celebrated exceptional young minds with outstanding linguistic talent across four grade categories, spanning from Grade 2 to Grade 9.
The journey to the national finals began with a rigorous, dualphase competition format designed to unearth the country's finest spellers. Comprehensive districtlevel preliminaries featuring demanding written and oral evaluations were conducted across eight districts in Sri Lanka with over 1,800 participants, including Galle and Jaffna districts. Out of these thousands of ambitious con- tenders, the toptier spellers advanced to the highly competi- tive Final Championship, where they were tested across two intensive oral spelling rounds and a challenging word meaning round.
Reflecting the compe- tition’s wide national footprint, the top honours including the Champion and 1st Runner-Up titles in all four categories were claimed by bright young spellersre presenting various regions of the country. Lyceum Assessments remains dedicated to providing an aca- demic platform that recognises and nurtures linguistic bril- liance throughout Sri Lanka, elevating the standard of English language literacy and presentation on a national stage.
