Four students of Gateway to represent Sri Lanka in Squash

Four rising stars from Gateway College have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the 31st Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship, to be held in Pakistan. These promising athletes are among the 32 players chosen to represent the country. The players were introduced to squash at Gateway College, Colombo under the expert guidance of coach C.H. Thalagala. Their dedication and hard work have seen them excel in the sport, bringing pride to both their school and country. Chanumi Nimthara Thebuwena will compete in the Under-13 Girls category, while Sithumli Ruhansa will play in the Under-15 Girls category.

Manuth Sandira Dassanayake will participate in the Under-15 matches, and Vishan Ranathunga will take part in the Under-19 matches. Notably, Chanumi, Manuth, and Vishan are ranked number one in their respective categories, with Sithumli holding the second position. Earlier in the year, Manuth, Vishan and Ravith Mendis represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championships that were held in China.

Amongst others who have excelled in recent tournaments are Shenaya Siriwardena, Taveesha Goonasekara, Dillon Perukanda, Yolen Withanage, Limasha Wijesekara, Ranuk Mendis and Anuk Perera. The achievements of these young athletes underscore the strength of Gateway College’s squash programme and the exceptional coaching they have received. Their participation in the Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship is a testament to their skill and commitment to the sport.
