SLIIT Business School focuses on enhancing the soft skills of schoolchildren

With the aim of cultivating the essential skills such as team work, problem solving, leadership skills and creative thinking among schoolchildren, SLIIT Business School conducts SoftSkills+2019 for the seventh consecutive year. This is organised as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative and is an approved event of Ministry of Education. Event dates are s cheduled during 27th February to 8th March with the final round on 12th March 2019. The programme is designed to bridge the gap that exists in the current education curriculum with the participation of schools from districts across the country. The programme includes a Biz Quiz covering a wide range of Sri Lankan and international general knowledge topics, and soft skill workshops.

This programme aims to spark interest in soft skills among children and encourageout- of-the-box thinking, while improving business knowledge and serving to bridge the skills gap. Previous year the programme was held at Malabe, Kandy, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Matara, Rathnapura and Bandarawela with the participation of 179 teams representing 98 schools around the country. These preliminary rounds contained three quiz rounds each, which were conducted in English while displaying questions in Sinhala and Tamil as well. The questions were from International Trade, Biz in Lanka and Business around the world. The top scoring teams of the preliminary rounds were qualified for the grand finale held at SLIIT Malabe Campus.

A total of 24 teams participated in the Grand Finale where Maliyadewa Girls’ College - Kurunegala emerged as Champions while Lyceum International School - Wattala became the 1st runner’s-up and Gampaha Rathnawali BalikaVidyalaya became the 2nd runner’s-up. This year, the preliminary rounds for the competition will be held in Kandy, Malabe, Kurunegala, Bandarawela, Rathnapura, Matara and Jaffna with the participation of 300 schools islandwide. Commenting on the programme, Prof. Samantha Thelijjagoda, Dean,SLIIT Business School said,“We are extremely excited to organise the Soft Skills 2019 programme for the 7th consecutive year.

We understand our schoolchildren have tremendous talent which needs to be nurtured to assist them to become more competitive in today’s business world.
