Zahira College, celebrating 100 years of scouting this year 2018, organised a Singithi Scout Day on May 5 at the college grounds from 8.00am to 12.00noon as the first of a series of events for the Centenary. Singithi Scouts from Royal, St. Peter’s, Mahanama, Nalanda, Lumbini, Amal International and Belvoir along with hosts Zahira participated. 550 scouts took part in a very interesting programme of handwork, art, storytelling and singing amidst a large gathering of parents, scout officials of the district, staff of Zahira College, past scouts, old boys and well wishers. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Rajeeva Pieris, Member of the National Training Team of Sri Lanka Scouts and also former International Commissioner and former Assistant District Commissioner of Colombo District.
The Chief Guest on arrival was welcomed by the Principal of Zahira College, Trizviiy Marikkar along with Alavi Mukthar, the Secretary of the Board of Governors and M.F.S. Muheed, the Chairman of the Scout Committee. The Principal in his address stressed on the importance of the co-curricular activities which would help the students in their academic work. Alavi Mukthar said he was happy to see the development of scouting at Zahira College. Dr. Rajeeva Pieris made a very inspirational speech with great advice to the parents. M.F.S. Muheed, the Chairman of the Scout Committee proposed the Vote of Thanks. Shiraz Salih, the Special Scout Commissioner in Charge of Singithi Scouts and Suren Wikkrematilleke, the District Scout Commissioner were also present among the large number of distinguished invitees.
