AIESEC in University of Colombo to Hold Third Edition of “Leader in You” on July 18
Event Preview AIESEC in University of Colombo will hold the third edition of its annual youth leadership programme, “Leader in You,” on July 18, 2026, at the New Arts Theatre, University of Colombo. The oneday event is open to Advanced Level students, recent school leavers, and undergraduates, with organizers expecting around 500 participants. Now in its third consecutive year, Leader in You has grown into one of the more recognised student-focused initiatives run by AIESEC in University of Colombo.
While the programme was originally designed with school students in mind, it has since opened its doors to undergraduates as well. For younger delegates, it offers an early introduction to leadership skills rarely covered in the standard school curriculum. For university students, it provides a chance to sharpen existing abilities and gain new perspectives by engaging with a younger audience. The day's schedule is built around practical, scenario-based sessions rather than lectures. Organisers say the goal is to help participants build confidence, improve their decision-making under pressure, and better understand what leadership looks like in real team settings.
A key part of the programme is its Outbound Training segment, an outdoor, activity-based session where participants work through team challenges and physical tasks together. Past attendees have repeatedly named this portion as the most memorable, largely because it pushes them to work closely with people they are often meeting for the first time. Guest speakers will also feature this year, sharing personal accounts of challenges they have faced and how leadership helped them work through those moments. Organisers say the intention is to give students relatable role models rather than abstract advice.
Leader in You has run successfully for two years prior to this edition, building a solid reputation among schools in and around Colombo. A number of former participants have gone on to take up leadership roles in their schools, clubs, and societies, crediting the programme with helping build that confidence. With turnout expected to be higher this year, AIESEC in University of Colombo is encouraging interested students and their parents to register early, as spots are limited.
