Suraksha student insurance scheme benefits expanded

Continued from Page 1 Under the amendment of the agreement on 09.10.2025, new benefits will be available for events occurring on or after 01.09.2025. The annual income considered for the provision of the benefit in the event of the death of a parent in 2024/2025 is Rs 180,000. However, after 01.09.2025 the annual income considered for the provision of the said benefit will be revised to an income less than Rs 240,000. Students taking long-term medications for various diseases were not covered under this programme previously.

From 01.09.2025, students taking long-term medications for diseases falling under the category of critical illnesses, and the following diseases, have been provided with the opportunity to receive benefits up to Rs 20,000 as external benefits. These medical conditions include epilepsy, nephrotic syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and rheumatic valve heart disease.

The insurance scheme will also provide an opportunity to receive benefits up to Rs 75,000 for a wearable device (scoliosis brace) to correct spinal deformity and for the cost of ear, nose and throat devices (recommended by an ENT surgeon). It will also cover benefits for lumber guards and cervical collar devices provided only in the event of an accident, also in the event of a non-accidental illness (recommended by a specialist doctor). When obtaining benefits, all relevant documents including the claim form must be certified by the school principal and submitted to a regional branch of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation General Limited.
