Schools asked to submit applications for Presidential Scholarship programme

The district-level Presidential Scholarship programme for low-income students in Grades 1–11 and A/ Level students began on Friday (12). Selected students in the Hambantota District received their scholarships on Friday (12). Scholarships were given in the Badulla, Matale, and Jaffna Districts on July 13. Kilinochchi District will follow on July 14. Gampaha District will have its distribution on July 16 and 17, while Galle and Anuradhapura Districts will receive their scholarships on July 15, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said. Further distributions will take place in Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Ratnapura, Kegalle, and Nuwara Eliya Districts on July 16.

On July 17, the scholarships will be awarded in Kalutara, Mannar, Ampara, Kurunegala, and Kandy Districts. The process continues on July 18 in Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, and Polonnaruwa Districts. Monaragala and Matara Districts will be awarded on July 19, and the Puttalam District will receive scholarships on July 22. Under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the scholarship distribution for the Colombo District was held on June 19 at Temple Trees. The award ceremonies will take place under the patronage of District Secretaries, in collaboration with principals and zonal education offices.

Only a subset of the scholarship recipients will be invited to the award ceremony during the first phase, and the names of the scholarship winners from each school in each district at the education zone level will be posted on the President’s Fund’s official Facebook page. For 24 months, scholarships of Rs 6,000 a month are being given to A/ Level students. 60 students were picked from each of the 100 zonal offices, for a total of 6,000 scholarship winners thus far. Scholarships for these students will be given out during the award ceremony.

Principals of schools that have not yet submitted applications have been instructed to do so as soon as possible. It has been observed that some schools have not yet submitted applications for the scholarship programme, which offers selected students in Grades 1 to 11 Rs 3,000 a month for 12 months. Each zonal education director has received a list of schools that have not applied for a scholarship.
