CIDCA to provide Sri Lanka classrooms with cutting-edge educational infrastructure

Friday, 12th of July 2024

Under the China-Aid initiative, Sri Lanka and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) have inked a letter of exchange for the Digital Transformation of General Education project. On Thursday (11) Sri Lanka Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he signed the agreement on behalf of the government in Beijing. CIDCA Vice President Yang Weiqun signed on behalf of China. The proposed grant is meant to ‘catalyze the digital transformation of Sri Lanka’s education sector’.

The grant’s main goal is to build a cutting-edge educational infrastructure, which will include a National Streaming Hub, a Multimedia Distance Learning and Conference Solution, and an Educational Data Center, Mr Siriwardana said. The initiative will span 900 classrooms across 500 schools in its first phase by implementing smart classrooms with interactive high-definition distance learning features. With the help of ongoing education sector changes and digital transformation, this programme seeks to improve the teaching and learning process. The Chinese government would also supply the required software and technical training as part of the donation. (NA)
