Smart boards courtesy of China

Monday, 1st of January 2024

The Chinese Government has agreed to provide a grant of Rs 32 million for the installment of smart boards in 1,500 schools across the island, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said. The installation is expected to commence in April after finalising the arrangements. The installation of smart boards will have a range of advantages including the facility of sharing lessons so that a couple of schools could follow the same programme through a live streaming facility. Minister Premajayantha said that recorded programmes too could be used with this facility.

For subjects which require illustrations and detailed explanations, particularly science subjects, the smart boards will be useful. “Another advantage would be that several classrooms could be combined through this facility thereby teaching resources too could be used in a beneficial manner,” he said. The installation of the smart boards will take place in three stages with priority given to GCE (A/L and OL) classes followed by classes above Grade 6, and in the third stage the number of smart boards will be increased.
