Gateway students launch ‘Each One, Plant One’ campaign to celebrate the School’s 25th Anniversary
Dovetailing with the government’s drive to increase the forest cover in Sri Lanka by 30% by 2025, students of the Gateway Colleges embarked on a project to plant 2500 trees. Organized by Gateway College, Negombo, and supported by all other Gateway Colleges, the project was aptly themed ‘Each One, Plant One’. The planting of 1500 Coconut and 1000 Mango trees was successfully carried out at the Sri Lanka Army Singha Regiment, Ambepussa with the direct assistance of the Center Commandant of the Regiment, and with the blessings and guidance of the Commander of the SL Army and the Director Agriculture of SL Army. The event was attended by the Board of Directors of the Gateway Group along with the Principals, Senior Management, Teachers, Prefects, and Students of all Gateway schools.

With the school completing 25 years, Gateway had planned many activities from the beginning of 2022 to celebrate this important milestone. However, with the disturbances in the country during the first half of the year, many of these events had to be postponed to the latter part of the year. The schools have now completed most of the activities that were planned including the religious ceremonies in all schools, a celebration and a presentation of awards to over 700 members of both academic and administrative staff at Shangri-La Hambantota, Applause 25 – a musical production with the participation of all schools and finally the tree planting campaign to plant 2500 trees. The celebrations will culminate with a walk and carnival which will be held in Colombo on the 28th of January. Gateway College has also produced an Anniversary Video and a unique Coffee Table Book that describes the past 25 years and how Gateway students envision the next 25 years to be.
