IT facilities to be provided or upgraded in many rural and provincial schools

Rs. 1B set aside for schools being developed under “the nearest school is the best school,” project

One billion rupees has been allocated from the 2022 Budget to improve the infrastructure re q u i red to develop the Information Technology sector in schools. The funds will be used to purchase desktop computers, laptops and related equipment and to improve internet facilities in national and provincial schools.

Arrangements have been made to make available Rs 645 million of the funds to provide IT facilities for schools which are being developed under “the nearest school is the best school,” project. Around 1000 schools will be targeted by this project. Also, 100 provincial schools and rural schools are to be provided with IT facilities. Another 35 national schools and provincial schools will be provided with IT labs.

Rs. 400 million of the funds will be made available mid next year for provincial and rural schools. Rs. 243 million will be used to buy machinery and Rs. 68 million will be used to provide internet facilities to rural schools. Another Rs. 120 million will be used to maintain IT related equipment in these schools. The funds will be made available from January onwards.
