The ‘Fleximind team from Sri Lanka, an all-girls team, made their way to Brunei to contest the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards 2024 after their success in Sri Lanka beating 26 universities in the Fleximind contest. In Brunei, the Sri Lanka team was placed runner-up with a silver, while the team from Hong Kong bagged gold, and the Pakistan team won bronze. The all-girls team from the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), made its mark on the global tech scene and brought pride to our nation by securing the first runners-up position at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2024.
The event, held in Brunei, saw participants from over 20 countries, making team FlexiMind’s success an exceptional accomplishment. At the NBQSA awards held in October 2024 the Sri Lankan section of the BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, the team won gold surpassing all competitive teams of universities in Sri Lanka and was selected to represent the country at the APICTA awards held in Brunei in December. The brilliant minds behind this achievement – Vithya Sangkavi, Kaushani Wijesundara, L o chani Jayawardhane, and Arani Wijerathne – are all students of the SLIIT Faculty of Computing.
Their project, which competed in the Tertiary Student Project Applications category, not only showcased their exceptional technical proficiency but also highlighted their outstanding creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. These young women, through their innovation, demonstrated how far determination, skill, and a collaborative spirit can take you on the global stage. The APICTA Awards are known for their focus on international collaboration, technological innovation, and the development of indigenous ICT solutions with global potential.
The opportunity to compete on such a platform gave team FlexiMind the ideal setting to exhibit their capabilities, and they did so with immense poise and brilliance. Their success is a proud testament to the rising prominence of Lankan talent in the global technology sector.
