The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said applications have been called from eligible Lankans for an undergraduate scholarship in Medicine offered by the Republic of Cuba at the Latin American University of Medicine (ELAM) for the academic year 2025. Applicants should fulfill the eligibility requirements to obtain the undergraduate scholarship. They must be a citizen of Sri Lanka, less than 25 years of age at 06.12.2024 (should be over 16 years and under 25 years) The applicant should have a minimum of three passes at the GCE (A/L) Examination 2023 in the Biological stream, conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka. The applicant should also have good knowledge of English.
(Should have obtained a “C” pass in English at the GCE (O/L) Examination and “S” pass at the GCE A/L Examination) The applicant should be in good health and ready to live in Cuba during the period of study. They should also not be registered or following a course at a State university in Sri Lanka as an internal student (a student selected by UGC based on the GCE A/L). Studies would be conducted in Spanish. Selected candidates must arrive in Cuba between August 20-30, 2025 to engage in the preparatory studies in the Spanish language.
The Government of Cuba will pay for the education of the scholar, accommodation, food and medical care. The Education Ministry will provide a monthly allowance of US$40 to Cuban scholarship recipients. The cost of an air ticket to Cuba and back should be borne by the student. Candidates who are awarded this scholarship would not be considered for the university admission process of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. If any student declines the offer after the selection process, they shall not be considered for any future scholarships that are offered by this Ministry.
