AOD Brings Design Education to Kandy with Exclusive Open Day

Friday, 8th of May 2026

Immersive, hands-on sessions on 9 May 2026 mark the first stop in a curated city series expanding access to creative education across Sri Lanka The Academy of Design (AOD) will host an exclusive Open Day in Kandy on 9 May 2026, marking the first stop in a curated series of cities where the institution will extend access to design education. Taking place from 10.00 AM to 4.00 PM at The Kandy Club, the Open Day is designed as an immersive introduction to AOD’s internation- ally recognised undergraduate pro- grammes and its industry-led approach to creative learning. The event will feature a series of interactive design labs and hands- on sessions across key disciplines, including Visual Communication and Design, Motion Graphics and Animation, Interior Design, and Fashion Design.

Each session is structured to give attendees a practical understanding of how ideas are developed, refined, and translated into real-world outcomes within a studio environment, while also introducing the tools, techniques, and conceptual thinking that define contemporary design practice. Prospective students and par- ents will have the opportunity to engage directly with AOD’s aca- demic team, student counsellors, and current students, gaining first-hand insight into course structures, learning experiences, and progression pathways.

The Open Day will also provide guid- ance on entry requirements for students completing O/Levels and A/Levels, as well as alternative pathways such as foundation pro- grammes that lead directly into undergraduate degrees. As Sri Lanka’s design industry continues to expand across sectors such as fashion, digital media, branding, and spatial design, AOD remains at the forefront of nurtur- ing creative talent equipped to operate within both local and glob- al contexts.

By bringing this experi- ence to Kandy, AOD aims to make design education more accessible to students beyond Colombo, open- ing up new possibilities for those looking to pursue careers in the creative industries. With limited capacity for each session, early re gistration is strongly encouraged. Attendees will gain a comprehensive under- standing of what it means to study design at AOD, while experiencing the energy, creativity, and collabo- rative culture that define its learn- ing environment. Registrations are now open, and interested participants are encouraged to secure their place in advance.
