Japanese classes islandwide from October 17 onwards

Wednesday, 12th of October 2022

The Government is to begin Japanese classes islandwide from October 17 onwards, to cater to Japanese employment opportunities, Social Empowerment State Minister Anupa Pasqual told Parliament this week. In Parliament on October 4, Mr Pasqual said the Government is to select divisional secretariats in each district and begin Japanese classes on October 17, in commemoration of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

The programme was meant primarily for Samurdhi families, who could receive opportunities to apply for jobs in Japan, with Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, providing full sponsorship. “The necessary actions to guide Samurdhi families and other people who will be able to take part in this programme will be done soon,” Mr Pasqual said.

Mr Pasqual also said the Government requires teachers of the Japanese language in all districts, and they had published an advertisement last Sunday in many Sinhala, Tamil and English papers. He also proposed a national programme in schools, in which everyone must join hands, to combat malnutrition. “It is the responsibility of all citizens if they think of the economy and to eliminate malnutrition, and not blame the Government,” Mr Pasqual added.
