400+ students met with representatives from several US and Canadian universities reputed for academic excellence and innovation at the U.S. and Canada University Fair hosted by ANC Education at the Kingsbury Hotel and Kandy City Centre last week. The event provided the opportunity for students and their parents to have one-onone interaction with the university representatives: “The event was meticulously organized… Students who came to us were all serious and potential students, NOT walk-ins; hats off to ANC for organizing the event,” said Ms. Dilini Gunasekera , Regional Admissions Recruiter for Saint Joseph University of the USA. International admissions advisors counseled local students on the types of study options available in the U.S, A., specific colleges and universities, academic courses/ majors offered, cost and financial aid and scholarships for international students, on-campus employment, and internship opportunities.
They also received firsthand information on standard test (SAT, IELTS, TOEFL) score requirements, U.S. student visa requirements, and student life and campus culture in America. Several spot admissions and merit scholarships were also offered to undergraduate courses of their choice. A number of US universities including The State University of New York -SUNY Oswego and SUNY Albany, comprehensive colleges with an excellent academic reputation and commitment to undergraduate education; Northwood University, best known for its top notch business degree programs ; Western New England University, ranked in the top 3 percent of public and private institutions reviewed in the USA; LeTourneau University, one of the best colleges for engineering in America; University of Wisconsin-Stout, one of only 125 polytechnic universities in the United States, and several universities highly regarded for their strong business and STEM programs and focus on employability skills, such as Wi chita Stat e University, University of South Dakota, University of Saint Joseph, Northern Arizona University, Tennessee Technological University, Acadia University and Algoma University of Canada represented at the university fair.
