Southern Cross University (SCU), one of Australia’s leading public universities, in partnership with NSBM Green University, successfully hosted its national launch in Sri Lanka from 19 to 21 February 2026. The event marked the official introduction of SCU’s globally recognised Australian Bachelor of Business program, offering Sri Lankan students the unique opportunity to earn an Australian degree without leaving home.

The three-day launch brought together key stakeholders from across the country, including the Australian High Commission, Ministry of Education representatives, leading schools, tuition teachers, career counsellors, national media, parents, and students. Attendees engaged in a variety of interactive learning activities, faculty-led sessions, and school and teacher forums, reflecting SCU’s commitment to delivering world-class education locally while providing direct pathways to Australian academic and career opportunities.

Showcasing the Southern Cross Model

The launch highlighted SCU’s distinctive Southern Cross Model, designed for Gen-Z learners. With six-week teaching terms, a focused number of subjects per term, and no traditional examinations, the model allows students to gain practical skills, hands-on experience, and career-ready confidence through industry- integrated projects.

Global Expertise, Local Engagement

SCU’s senior academics, Professor Darshana Sedera and Associate Professor John Haw, led workshops, parent forums, and teacher briefings in English and Sinhala. Their sessions offered families rare direct access to Australian university leadership and guidance on pathways to an international degree.

Teacher Ambassador Circle Launched

In addition to student-focused initiatives, SCU launched Sri Lanka’s first international-university-backed Teacher Ambassador Circle (TAC). Senior schoolteachers, principals, career counsellors, and tuition masters were appointed as academic partners to guide students, align school curricula with SCU programmes, and ensure long-term student success. TAC represents a unique collaboration between schools and an international university to strengthen educational outcomes across Sri Lanka.

Student Enrolments and Early Achievers Unlike a traditional education fair, the SCU–NSBM National Launch offered live enrolment opportunities. Students and parents submitted applications for the February and July 2026 intakes on-site, with SCU staff available for personalised admissions guidance. The first 30 students to enrol during the launch received Samsung tablets to support their studies, online learning, and digital collaboration.

The event demonstrated SCU’s commitment to delivering world-class Australian education in Sri Lanka, providing students with global teaching standards, international career pathways, and the academic credibility of a public Australian university, all without leaving home.
