The Fullstack Computer Society of APIIT Sri Lanka Holds its First AGM and Installation Ceremony

Friday, 24th of May 2024

The APIIT Fullstack Computer Society, founded in November 2022, recently celebrated a significant milestone with its first official Installation Ceremony and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 10, 2024. This event marked the formal recognition of the club and set the stage for its future endeavours in developing education, innovation, and community building among tech enthusiasts. AFCS is set to redefine its role in the tech community at APIIT by focusing on three core pillars: education, innovation, and community.

The club is committed to enhancing the skills of its members through workshops with industry experts, organising coding competitions, and facilitating peer learning sessions to keep members abreast of the latest technological advancements. Innovation is another key focus for AFCS, aiming to set trends rather than follow them. The club encourages brainstorming and collaboration on projects with real-world impact, such as developing apps for social good and exploring cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain. Community building is at the heart of AFCS’s mission.

The club aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment where every member feels valued and motivated. Initiatives like the “Coffee and Code” sessions exemplify this commitment, combining peer-to-peer learning with a relaxed atmosphere to build a collaborative learning culture. Throughout the past year, AFCS members have achieved notable successes in various competitions. The society emerged victorious in the OREL IT Debate Competition and secured the First runner-up title in the Vetstoria TechTrek Inter-University Coding Challenge.

Key projects undertaken by AFCS include the LEAP workshop series, which focuses on personal branding and professional development, and the DevSprint competition, a dynamic development challenge that engages students across all years in software development projects. The current executive committee has also introduced innovative projects such as the AFCS Orientation Project and “Coffee and Code” sessions, further enhancing the society’s impact on its members’ academic and professional journeys.

APIIT Sri Lanka has always been dedicated to providing out-of-the-classroom experiences that enhance learning and personal growth. The success of AFCS is one such initiative that continues to offer valuable opportunities for students to develop their skills and engage in meaningful projects. This emphasis on practical, hands-on experiences is something APIIT hopes to continue and expand in the future, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for real-world challenges.

With a renewed sense of purpose and formal recognition, the APIIT Fullstack Computer Society is prepared to enhance its impact, creating a vibrant community of tech enthusiasts dedicated to education, innovation, and community building. APIIT’s dedication to empowering students to be equal partners in the learning journey is evident through learning communities such as the APIIT Fullstack Computer Society. Experiences offered through the AFCS not only enhance the student's academic journey but also prepare students for rapid career advancement. AFSCS is a testament to APIIT’s mission to nurture well-rounded individuals ready to tackle future challenges.
