Diaspora support sought to aid Sri Lankan students study abroad

Tuesday, 25th of April 2023

Diaspora support is to be sought to send Lankan students who excel to top international universities. President Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed officials to obtain support from the diaspora to a fund that will finance foreign post-graduate courses for students here. “I want to give more for students who pass out from Sri Lankan universities. Annually, we need to send at least one student each to Oxford, Cambridge, MIT and Harvard for doctorate studies. We can select from our State universities, or institutions like the SLIIT, and others who grant their own degrees. Later on we can increase the numbers,” he said. The President said three students can be from technology and one from liberal arts, this too can be rotated annually. NF
