11 years of Pride in Global Education in the Misty Hills - Lyceum International School, Nuwara Eliya

While the mother school established through the dream come true of the visionary educationalist Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, completes its 30th successful year, located amidst the cool ambience of the central hills, Lyceum International School, Nuwara Eliya, celebrates its 11th anniversary this year.

Lead by the solid guidance of the senior management constituent of its Founder Hon. Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, the Coordinating Principal Dr.Kumari Grero and the Managing Director Mr. Nikitha Grero, Lyceum International School, Nuwara Eliya has grown by leaps and bounds throughout the past years and keeps setting the bar higher by each year.

The humble beginnings of Lyceum International School, Nuwara Eliya, were marked on April 23, 2012, with a count of 450 students and 45 academic and non-academic staff members. At present the organization has a student population of over 630 and a staff crew of over 120 members.

With the vision to produce global citizens who will reshape the future of our motherland, Lyceum International School caters to the students with unparalleled educational services. The curriculum does not focus on providing subject content, but also a holistic approach that nurtures the student community to empower themselves to face any challenge life throws at them.

Students from pre-primary to grade 8 at Lyceum, Nuwara Eliya follow a hybrid syllabus that encompasses the Lyceum, international and National subject contents, while students from grades 9 to 10 are provided with the National syllabus which facilitates them to face their G.C.E. O/L Examinations. Meanwhile, qualified students are given the opportunity to prepare for the National G.C.E. A/L Examinations.

Apart from the core subject content, the students are presented with the valuable opportunity to engage in subjects such as Effective Speech, and Life Skills that pave the path for them to groom themselves with the ability to take up the real life challenges and face them with ease. Co-curricular activities in the school consist of a variety of physical and non-physical activities that assist the children in enhancing their personalities as individuals with strong physical, social and emotional abilities.

Physical activities at Lyceum, Nuwara Eliya include several activities such as Athletics, Western Band, Cubbing, Scouting, Little Friends, Girl Guiding, Little Friends, Netball, Soccer, Badminton, Karate, Table Tennis, Cricket, and Gymnastics, with Golf being the sport available only at the Nuwara Eliya branch, whereas non-physical activities consist of activities such as Debating (English, Tamil and Sinhala), Chess, and Choir.

Despite the challenges thrown during the past couple of years with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the academic as well as sports achievements of Lyceum International School, Nuwara Eliya have been immense. District ranks were achieved by the students who faced the G.C.E. A/L Examinations(2021) in the Commerce and Science Streams and several pupils achieved 9As, and 8As at the G.C.E. O/L Examinations.

In terms of co-curricular activities, the participants have brought glory to their Alma Mater by achieving in District, Zonal and National levels in Athletics, Karate, Chess and Badminton. None of these achievements would have been possible if not for the highly qualified and experienced panel of the staff members who extend their unwavering services with dedication and commitment.

‘Born to Teach’ is not only the motto given to them by word but a motto they live by. Accomplishing 11 supreme years of providing quality education to the young generations of Nuwara Eliya and its suburbs, Lyceum International School, Nuwara Eliya, is henceforth stepping boldly into its twelfth year as one of the most prominent international schools in the district.
