While many children were being feted for obtaining high marks at the Grade 5 Scholarship exams, a handicapped child who used her mouth to hold the pen, got 145 marks to pass the exam. Dinusha Bandara, an 11-year-old student of Mawanella, Kotagala Ashokapura Special Needs Childrens' School emerged with flying colours in the exam. Principal A.S. Siriwardena said students at the school are given all the education they need to pass exams, despite the difficulties they face. Dinusha is a talented student and has previously won many prizes as a skilled Artist. Born without hands and feet, she had been given to the Preethipura Home when she was a few days old, as her parents were unable to bring her up. Later, she was brought to the Mawanella Home where she grew up with the love and care of the caretakers there, and excelled in her studies as well as in Art.
