Rusin unveils ‘Sri Lanka’s first conceptual lunar space city model’ with Thurstan Students

Rusin Thathsara, a final year undergraduate of the University of Moratuwa and an alumnus of Sivali Central College, Ratnapura, first introduced his innovative “VIMANA Space City” project in 2022. As the latest development of that vision, he presented Sri Lanka’s first conceptual lunar space city model in collaboration with the students of Thurstan College, Colombo, as par t of the KNIGHT-RO Astronomy Exhibition. A feature of this exhibition was the launch of Asia’s first conceptual lunar space control system, also designed by Rusin.

This model was officially unveiled under the patronage of former Defence Secretary, For mer Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyiyakontha, and was on display for three days. The event attracted many, including Lankan astronomer Anura C Perera, Principal Pramuditha Wickramasinghe of Thurstan College, along with thousands of students and space enthusiasts from across the country
