Gateway College secures the highest number of awards at COMUN 2019

Following three days of strenuous debate, students from Gateway College emerged victorious, clinching a number of prestigious awards across several committees, at the 25th session of the Colombo Model United Nations (COMUN) conference. Held on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March, the Colombo Model United Nations witnessed the participation and fierce competition among several leading schools from all parts of the country. Students from Gateway College dominated in most committees, winning several awards. ‘Best Delegate’ awards were won by Asjad Arshad, Maleeka Hassan and Deveen Harischandra in the 4th General Assembly, Group of 20 (G20) and the Presidential Cabinet respectively. Kumal Udamulla in the 4th General Assembly, Randesh Wickrama in Group of 20 (G20) and Farhan Naushad in the Historical General Assembly won ‘Higher Commendation’ awards.

In addition, Areeb Atheek, Shaheen Abdul Gani and Tharidhu Peries received ‘Honorary Mention’ awards in the Historical General Assembly, 3rd General Assembly and Presidential Cabinet. Venuki Mendis was awarded the ‘Best Foreign Policy Statement’ in the 4th General Assembly while Tiranya Ranasinghe was reco gnised as the ‘Best Cooperation’ in the International Press Corps. Further more, Deve e n Harischandra and Randesh Wickrama, received Best Crisis Delegation awards in the Presidential Cabinet and Group of 20 respectively. Students of Gateway College remain a force to reckon with in the Sri Lankan Model UN arena, performing exceptionally well both nationally and internationally. The MUN club of Gateway College, aptly supported by the teachers in charge and the alumni, continues to go from strength to strength with the passing of each conference.
