The Chinese Government has approved a grant of USD 20 million for a digitalization of education project in Sri Lanka. The grant was approved during the recent visit of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha to China. 3,000 schools will benefit from the project once implemented, according to Minister Premajayantha. He said that the required documents have been sent through the External Resources Department to China, in order to expedite the implementation of the project by January next year.
He said that classes from Grade 6 and above in selected schools across the country will benefit from the scheme. The classrooms will be equipped with smart boards and other required facilities. The schools selected will be those having Arts, Science, Commerce and Mathematics. Minister Premajayantha added that the training of teachers has already commenced. -DWI
