Tuesday, 13th of December 2022

“During any crisis, China has been among the first country to offer Sri Lanka assistance. We are happy to say China has come forward to assist us in numerous ways, particularly during the Covid-19 period and the present economic crisis,” Sri Lanka China Society President Jinith de Silva said. “After Covid-19, on our society’s request, several NGOs in China granted 1000 scholarships worth Rs 26m to needy students.

Each student received Rs 25,000 as a one-time donation,” he said. “Our society granted most of these scholarships to students in rural areas in our country. Particularly those in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Monaragala, Puttalam and Hambantota. In addition to that, we are happy to say we have already granted 25 scholarships to needy students of Maduwa Vidyalaya located on the island of the Madu River in Balapitiya, through this programme,” he added.
