Celebrating Founder’s Day: A Tribute to Lyceum’s Humble Beginnings and Lifelong Service

Tuesday, 1st of July 2025

Founder’s Day brings with it a sense of joy, celebration, and deep reflection on the humble beginnings of Lyceum—an institu- tion founded with a vision for the better- ment of the children of Mother Lanka.

This year, the main celebration was hosted at Lyceum Panadura in honour of their Silver Jubilee, commemorated in May 2025. Employees from across the island, representing all 10 Lyceum schools, were recognised for their dedicated service, cel- ebrating milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and even 30 years.

All the schools followed a unified agenda and dedicated time to watch the special Founder’s Day video, which featured heart- felt messages from the Founder, Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, Consultant Coordinating Principal Dr. Kumari Grero, and Group Chairman and CEO Mr. Nikitha Grero, who shared their insights on the institution’s journey and the values they continue to uphold.

A particularly meaningful feature was the Emeritus Teacher segment, where ten outstanding past educators were nominat- ed and awarded the prestigious Emeritus Award. This recognition was based on nominations received from various Lyceum branches, acknowledging those who have made a lasting impact on generations of students.

This year’s Emeritus Award recipients were:

Mrs. Chatra Withana

Mrs. Mary Moureen Perera

Mr. A.S.P. Chandrasekara

Mrs. Juvenalene James

Mrs. Anoja Shamalie Elvitigala

Mrs. Lalanthie Shirani Weerasooriya

Mrs. Vineetha Weerakkody

Mrs. Sujatha Wijesinghe

Mr. S.M. Donald Wickrama

Dr. J.B. Dela’l Kahandawela

These esteemed educators were hon- oured at the Lyceum Panadura, standing as beacons of excellence and dedication in the field of education.

Founder’s Day is more than a celebration it is a reaffirmation of Lyceum’s founding values and an appreciation of all who have contributed to its mission. Through remembrance, gratitude, and inspiration, the day continues to shape the future by honouring the past.
