There is a saying by the renowned Pakistani activist on female education Malala Yousafzai: “Let us remember, one book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world.” We recall the past when in 1993, the school was founded by the visionary educator Honourable Dr. Mohan Lal Grero and Dr. (Mrs.) Kumari Grero with their dream that this little plant would eventually grow and rise up as a strong tree providing shelter to many generations with its ever-growing branches and leaves. In this field of education, the opportunities to enlighten ourselves are endless.
And when there is a name, a place that holds the prestige of its world-class quality education such as Lyceum. On the 21st of October 2021, Lyceum International schools took another step ahead by opening a whole new space for education for Pre-Primary level Lyceumers in Kegalle, Sri Lanka. This virtual ribbon-cutting was a success due to the gathering of personnel who shared their views and wishes with us all along with our students and their beloved parents. The opening ceremony was assumed with the welcome address by Mrs. Suchitra Weerasinghe the Headmistress of the Pre-Primary School of Lyceum Kegalle.
One of the most important ideas she mentioned was the importance of making the right decision regarding the very first steps of their child’s education. Followed by this was the delivered by the Principal of Lyceum Kurunagala and Anuradhapura, Mr. Chandana Basnayake. He emphasized the importance of the new school being located in a commercial city such as Kegalle, the convenience, and benefits for all students in that area. We are thankful to our chief guests, Ms. Babita Chakraborty, the Primary coordinator of St Augustine’s day school of Shyamnagar India and Prof. Dr. Romesh Jayasinghe for joining us to witness this special event.
Her heartfelt wishes and support on this memorable day will be highly appreciated. During her speech, she mentioned the collaborative success of Lyceum with St. Augustine’s day school of Shyamnagar, and also, the fact that in a school, not only the students but also the teachers will be getting the opportunity to learn and to explore the child’s creativity in a natural way. Miss. Arindi Jayasinghe, a Lyceumer who represented Lyceum Kurunegala at The Global Social Leaders World Summit, UK also shared her thoughts with all. As she reminded, Lyceum treats their students as their own sons and daughters.
This is what makes this group of institutions? a family. Mr. Kasun Gunasinghe our Group Human Resources Manager Central Services handed over the letter of appointment to the newly appointed Headmistress Mrs. Suchitra Weerasinghe. It was followed by an impressive speech delivered by Master Chanuth Amarasinghe, a young Lyceumer from Kurunegala, who was also a representative at The Global Social Leaders Competition under the title “Dream to save the Green”. By expressing the idea of the importance of teamwork and collaboration that would make such events successful, the Sectional Head of Pre-Primary Section of Lyceum International School, Kurunegala , Ms. Vishmi Senadheera delivered the vote of thanks in concluding this ceremony.
