The William Angliss Institute at SLIIT - the partnership between the William Angliss Institute, Australia and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology celebrated '5 years and over 500 Graduates' with a grand cocktail reception at the Elevate Lounge, Access Towers. Invited guests from leading Sri Lankan hospitality and tourism organizations and representatives from the William Angliss Institute, Australia were treated to a variety of success stories from graduates who are currently excelling in many roles and pursuing exciting career paths in Sri Lanka and the world over. William Angliss Institute’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Nicholas Hunt opened the proceedings and highlighted the ‘79 years’ of educating students in the field of Hospitality, Tourism, Events and Culinary Arts. SLIIT Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, Professor LalithGamage, announced that there have been over 500 Graduates with 200 of them, residing in various parts of the world, either working or pursuing further studies. Since the inception of the William Angliss Institute at SLIIT, which has so far proven to be the largest private sector education specialist centre in the fields of hospitality, tourism, food and events in Sri Lanka, there has been seen in excess of 1,200 Australian qualifications awarded for a variety of programs delivered locally. As part of the special highlights of the evening, “The Hot Apple Cider” which won a gold medal at the SunquickMocktail competition and brought the first ever gold medal to be won by the William Angliss Institute at SLIIT, was modified and featured as the signature welcome drink served to all invitees.
The Hot Apple Cider was originally created by JulyanAttygalleDharmasena, who was a part of the team that represented the William Angliss Institute at SLIIT, at the Culinary Arts Expo organized by the Chef ’s Guild of Sri Lanka in 2018, a platform allowing industry professionals and students to compete on the same stage for prestigious awards and medals. The William Angliss Institute at SLIIT educates and trains young people to be confident, highly skilled, passionate and job ready to enter into the dynamic hospitality and tourism industry. While students are offered a highly sought after Australian qualification after learning the Australian based hospitality curriculum with new programs and state of the art extensions being introduced to better compete in the local as well as international job market.
Some of the Programs offered include Hospitality Management, Commercial Cookery and Event Management. In June this year, the William Angliss Institute at SLIIT will also deliver ‘Certificate IV in Patisserie’ which is another career path choice for upper school students. The William Angliss Institute at SLIIT takes great pride in supporting the industry with its growth and requirements, so much so, that from the month of February, construction shall commence on three more kitchens including a ‘specialist patisserie kitchen’. The existing 'state of the art facilities' and the new building extension with the most modern industry equipment will enable students to acquire the learning outcomes they desire to meet industry expectations.
