Soft Skills with Public Speaking for Youth

How does a young adult get that cutting edge to face the next steps with confidence in the competitive environment of today? Whilst the school curriculum focuses on academics with some extra-curricular activities, it is mostly outside the school that one acquires the soft skills that are critical to make one a true lady or gentleman who can make an impact in society. The Rainbow Institute, a centre of excellence in training in Public Speaking, Soft Skills and English, is committed to helping you. Many youth, adults and children who have gone through its’ doors are now confident communicators with sound values. Enrolment is now in progress for the Soft Skills and Public Speaking training for young adults.


The training provides youth with important life skills and sound values, as well as skills in public speaking. Topics covered include the following: Developing a personal vision for life (financial literacy and saving, family, higher education, employability skills), Social skills and gender sensitivity (Relations with adults, peers and those outside immediate circle), Responsible use of social media and escaping cyber bullying, Safeguarding yourself – introduction to self – defence, Listening Skills and empathy, Self - confidence and self- control, Debating and thinking out of the box, Creative writing - mind maps & answer plans, Powerful presentation skills including using Power Point, Team Building, Cultural sensitivity – learning about diverse religions and cultures in Sri Lanka, Dealing with bullying, Overcoming peer pressure and resisting addictive substances.


In the highly competitive academic environment that young people have to deal with, Rainbow Institute provides two refreshing hours for young adults, every Friday afternoon. This special time provides motivational training, with fun-filled action to empower youth


This training provides personalised coaching over a duration of 30 hours. (Approximately 4 months) As the sessions are limited to small batches, each participant gets individual attention and is guided to bring out the best of his or her own distinctive strengths. The training for the new batch is scheduled on Fridays from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm at the Rainbow Institute, No.28, School Lane, Colpetty. The new batch commences on the 22nd of November 2019.


Rainbow Institute also offers individual coaching for students want to excel in English and also for those who take part in Speech, Debating and Oratorical competitions. Many students from the Rainbow Institute have shone at school and won awards at national level competitions.


Children and young adults, who have learning difficulties are also provided personal coaching to develop confidence and bring out their best.


The empowerment programmes at Rainbow Institute are directed by eminent University academic, trainer and mentor of young people - Dr. Mahim Mendis. Dr Mahim Mendis, a product of St Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, has been mentoring and teaching in Sri Lanka and abroad for three decades. Dr.Mendis, the former Spokesman of the Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA), is well known as a powerful public speaker. Dr Mendis is supported by dynamic young trainers with high credentials and international exposure.
