The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Terrence Madhujith, met with a Spanish delegation led by Dr Ethel Allué, an archaeologist and anthropologist. Dr. Allué is a researcher at the Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES-CERCA) and a professor at the University Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain. The delegation also included Professor Llorenç Picornell and Dr. Daniel Gallego from the University of the Balearic Islands. Dr Parbath Ekanayake, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor R.M.M. Chandraratne, and Dr Aruna Rajapakse participated in the event. Dr. Ethel Allué is the coordinator for the Archbotanka Project, titled “From the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean through Ethnoarchaeology of Fuel and Archaeobotany.” This project is funded by the European Union through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Staff Exchanges.
The participant institutions in this project include the University of the Balearic Islands (Palma), the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (Paris, France), the University of Peradeniya (as an associated partner), MUCBO (Fundació Jardí Botànic de Sóller-Museu Balear de Ciències Naturals, Sóller), and the cooperative Els Corremarges (La Sala de Comalats, Tarragona, Spain).
