An Invitation to Explore AOD’s International Design Foundation Plus Programme

AOD, along with its award-winning international faculty, is set to host an open event for post O/L students on Sunday, July 21st. This event aims to help students explore creative career paths and understand how to turn these aspirations into reality. The event will give potential students the opportunity to participate in workshops, engage in diverse experiences, and converse with creative experts. It’s a chance to experience the world of Design, spanning from Fashion to Animation to Interior Design, and to gain insights into the creative industries.

Participants will learn how to forge careers, empower themselves as innovators or entrepreneurs, and drive positive change in Sri Lanka and beyond. In today’s interconnected world, where global perspectives and innovation drive creativity, the realm of design evolves at a rapid pace. It is essential for designers to be global and skilled to remain relevant on international platforms. At AOD, the leading institution in design education with over 20 years of experience, this philosophy forms the cornerstone of approaching and nurturing the next generation of design talent.

Partnering with prestigious institutions like Northumbria University, UK, and De Montfort University, UK, AOD ensures it offers international Degrees from Sri Lankan shores. Students can complete BA (Hons) programmes in Fashion & Textile Design, Motion Graphics and Animation Design, Fashion Design and Marketing, Graphics & Visual Communication Design, and Interior Design, providing them with a robust educational pathway and global recognition. The curriculum of the AOD International Design Foundation Programme covers a wide spectrum of disciplines including Animation and Comics, Motion Graphics, Graphic and 3D Design, Interior Architecture Design, Photography and Video, Illustration, Fashion, Film Making, Printmaking and Drawing, Design Thinking, and Cultural Studies.

This holistic approach not only hones technical skills but also fosters creativity and critical thinking, essential for thriving in the competitive world of design. A key focus of AOD’s International Design Foundation Programme is to allow students to explore these disciplines comprehensively, gaining valuable insights into various design pathways and principles. Supported by experienced lecturers who grasp their interests and strengths, students can make informed decisions regarding which design BA programme best aligns with their aspirations and talents upon completion of the programme.

At the helm of the programme is Verónica Londoño, an accomplished Colombian designer with a Bachelor of Graphic Design from Institución Universitaria Colegiatura. Her extensive background in graphic design, photography, art direction, and communication strategies enriches the learning experience, providing students with insights into both artistic expression and professional practice. Verónica is supported by a faculty including María Antonio Perez, a Social Transformation Desiner, Mika Nivela, who holds a degree in Visual Arts from Malmo Amartorteater Forum, Sweden, and Carolina Caroprese, who holds a Master’s degree in Multimedia from the University of Strasbourg with contribution Fashion Faculthy Prof Thomas Atkinson and Lesley Defreitas.

Their international perspectives contribute significantly to the programme’s global outlook. Together, they bring a wealth of educational and industry expertise, ensuring students receive comprehensive and cutting-edge guidance.
