Dr. Dinusha Weerawardane, a distinguished alumna of University of West London (UWL) and ANC School of Postgraduate Education, was the first Sri Lankan to be elected to the global council, the governing body of ACCA. ACCA council members are a diverse group of high flying business professionals from around the world. Dr. Dinusha has proved that there are no geographic boundaries as to what Sri Lankans can achieve, provided that they have access to high quality educational opportunities. ANC congratulates her on reaching great heights at the age of 27! Undoubtedly, the ACCA qualification and her involvement with this prestigious professional body has played a big part in the successful professional that she is today.
Dr. Dinusha also attributes her success to her alma maters University of West London and ANC, where she received a top-notch postgraduatelevel education. She was among the first batch of ANC students to graduate from UWL’s Master’s in International Business Management programme in 2014 and she chose to read for her Master’s at ANC because the programme is unique in its curricular structure and requirements; it equips students with the knowledge and skills that can be applied to one’s career success through several modules, including corporate strategy, HRM, marketing, and a dissertation, for which she obtained a distinction. Dr. Dinusha applauds ANC’s efforts to ensure that local students have access to better educational opportunities that lead to global careers through its collaboration with several top-ranked universities including UWL, which boasts an alumni network of thousands of business professionals from across the globe.
Dr. Dinusha was also the first secretary of the UWL Alumni Association of Sri Lanka. After earning her Master’s degree from UWL, she went on to complete her PhD, and she continues to capitalise on her knowledge and skills gained as an MBA graduate. She can also be a role model for any student trying to juggle academics and extracurricular activities, for she has shown a lot of promise throughout her high school career as well. She was named the Best All Rounder for three consecutive years during her stay at Holy Family Convent, Colombo 4 where she completed her O levels and A Levels with flying colours. She has also been an acclaimed actor, a talented singer, a keen sportswoman, a member of the western band and a number of student clubs and organisations and volunteered as a community worker.
It goes without saying that she is well-poised to contribute towards the betterment of society. Dr. Dinusha’s words of wisdom for O/L and A/L students: “We can’t expect the world to give us everything on a silver platter. We need to push ourselves forward. Students finishing O Levels and A Levels need to figure out where they want to get to in life and then work towards it. Time is precious, and obtaining a formal higher education is one of the most important decisions in your life and definitely one that you would not regret…” ANC’s good wishes are with Dr. Dinusha for all her future endeavours!
