Prof B M N W B Balasooriya has been appointed Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya, effective February 15. An academic and administrator, Prof Balasooriya has contributed to higher education, research, and national development, the university said. An expert in geology, he has led research initiatives, fostering both national and international collaborations. His administrative experience includes serving as Acting Head of the Department of Geology, Acting Director of the Department of Physical Education, Proctor of the University of Peradeniya, and Chairman of the Board of Study in Earth Sciences, PGIS. He also played a pivotal role in policy development and quality assurance at the University of Peradeniya. He serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of Kahatagaha Graphite Lanka Ltd and the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau ( G S M B ) under the Environment Ministry.
