Sunday, 29th of September 2024

The World’s Top 2% Scientists list featured 43 Lankan researchers this year. Five researchers from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura earned a place on the list, published by Elsevier, a leading scientific publisher. The honourees include Prof Meththika Vithanage, Dr Anushka Upamali Rajapakse, and Dr Kasun M Thambugala from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, along with Dr K K Asanka Sanjeewa and Dr Dhanushka Udayanga from the Faculty of Technology. The list is based on data from Scopus, the world’s largest abstract and citation database, and highlights leading scientists across various fields of research.

“This recognition of five USJ researchers on the top 2% Scientists list is a moment of pride for the university and the nation. It reflects the excellence and dedication of our researchers, and I thank them for their contribution to the university’s research ranking,” USJ Vice Chancellor Senior Prof Pathmalal M Manage said. The list is determined by a composite indicator known as the c-score, which factors in various elements such as the number of citations a scientist has garnered, their h-index, and the field-normalised citation impact. Unlike traditional metrics like total citation count, the c-score provides a more comprehensive assessment of a scientist’s overall impact. -NA
