Discussions on potential academic collaborations between California State University Department of Mathematics and the University of Peradeniya took place recently. The discussion took place when 17 undergraduate students, accompanied by four mathematics teachers, Prof Ajith Weerasinghe from the LCOE (Mechanical Engineering), and Prof Rajee Amarasinghe from the California State University Mathematics Department visited the University of Peradeniya. The delegation was welcomed by Vice Chancellor Prof W M T Madhujith.
Director of the International Relations Office Prof C N R A Alles, Faculty of Agriculture - Department of Food Science and Technology Prof B D Rohitha Prasantha, and staff members of the International Relations Office participated in the meeting held at the Vice Chancellor’s Office. Following a brief introduction to the University of Peradeniya by the Prof Madhujith, potential academic collaborations were discussed. These included research partnerships in engineering, agriculture, and mathematics, as well as programmes related to mathematics education between the two universities.
The meeting was followed by a programme featuring an exchange of information, an interactive session, a quiz competition, and a research discussion at the Faculty of Science - Mathematics Department. Prof Ajith Weerasinghe visited the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mathematics of the Faculty of Engineering. Possible research collaborations were discussed including solar system development research. The programme concluded with a short tour of the university.
