Ceyline Group, the foremost diversified maritime group in Sri Lanka, marked a historic milestone with its graduation ceremony for the inaugural cohort of Management Trainees (MTs). The event, themed “Inspiring Leadership,” was held on the 2nd of July 2024 at the Ceyline Learning Hub in Colombo 04, a pivotal location known for fostering continuous learning and development within the Group. Founded in 1985, Ceyline Group has navigated the complexities of the maritime industry for close to four decades, expanding its influence and services to encompass over 20 subsidiaries in Sri Lanka and overseas. Today, the group’s expertise spans across maritime, logistics, healthcare, engineering, leisure and education.

The Management Trainee Programme, a testament to Ceyline’s commitment to its purpose of “inspiring leadership in everyone we touch, to build a sustainable and equitable future for all”, welcomed its first cohort of trainees in July 2023. Over the course of a rigorous year-long programme, these individuals were immersed in various departments and subsidiaries, gaining hands-on experience and honing their skills under the guidance of seasoned professionals. The event commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by Chief Guest Mr. Bandula Egodage.

His presence underscored the significance of leadership development and talent cultivation in shaping Sri Lanka’s corporate landscape. Attendees at the ceremony included the Ceyline Management, People Team, Mentors of MTs and Ceyline Trainers as well as some special invitees from Commercial Credit, Dankotuwa, Suwasevana Hospitals and APIIT Lanka. The programmes’ success was attributed not only to structured training modules and mentorship but also to Ceyline’s enduring core values of Caring, Courage and Coaction.

“As a management trainee at Ceyline Group, I have had the privilege of gaining insights into diverse sectors of the maritime industry,” shared Anjana Samarahewa, reflecting on their experience. “The programme has equipped me with the skills and perspective needed to contribute effectively to Ceyline’s future.” Looking ahead, Ceyline Group plans to expand its Management Trainee Programme, aiming to attract top talent and nurture future leaders who will drive sustainability, equitability and innovation across its diverse operations.
