CINEC Revolutionises English Education in Sri Lanka with Tailored Degree Programmes

Friday, 29th of March 2024

In a groundbreaking move, the CINEC Campus has emerged as a beacon of quality education in Sri Lanka, offering a diverse array of degree programmes meticulously designed for English language studies. According to Mr. Lasantha Basnayake, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, CINEC’s commitment to excellence is evident through its four major degree offerings: BA (General) in English, BA (Hons) in English, B Ed (Hons) in English, and B Ed (Hons) in English (Top Up).

What sets CINEC apart is its dedication to providing affordable education without compromising on quality. Mr. Basnayake emphasises that these degree programmes are accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education. They offer unparalleled opportunities for students to develop their English language skills and pursue higher education locally and globally. The BA (General) in English and BA (Hons) in English, spanning three and four years, respectively, are open to students with three simple passes from any stream at the Advanced Level Examination.

With courses available on weekdays and weekends and no age restrictions, these programmes cater to a diverse range of learners, ensuring accessibility for all. Moreover, graduates of these programmes are guaranteed job opportunities, with many pursuing postgraduate studies abroad. The B Ed (Hons) in English holds a special place at CINEC, focusing on equipping individuals for careers in education. Recognised by both the UGC and the Ministry of Education, this four-year programme prepares graduates for roles as English teachers and, upon completing postgraduate studies, as university lecturers.

Highlighting CINEC’s commitment to addressing societal needs, the Bachelor of Education (Top Up) Honours programme targets trained teachers of English from the National Colleges of Education. By condensing the degree timeline to two years, CINEC aims to bridge the gap between training and degree attainment, empowering teachers to pursue advanced studies and international opportunities. In addition to these flagship programmes, CINEC offers a Diploma in Teaching English and Literature approved by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.

This intensive 10-month programme is pivotal in producing highly qualified English teachers, with many instructors in Sri Lanka’s international schools being CINEC alumni. CINEC’s pioneering efforts in English education underscore its commitment to nurturing talent, fostering academic excellence, and shaping the future of Sri Lanka’s educational landscape. Prospective candidates are warmly encouraged to seize the opportunity to embark on an extraordinary educational journey with CINEC. Offering a range of tailored programmes in English language studies, CINEC promises to ignite their aspirations for personal development, academic excellence, and professional success.
