Prof Manori Gamage appointed Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, J’pura

Prof Manori Gamage has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura (FMS/ USJP). She is the first alumni of the University to be appointed to the post. Prof Gamage, from the first batch of medical undergraduates of FMS/USJP, obtained her MBBS with First Class Honors in 1998, obtaining 9 Distinctions and 3 gold medals including the Prof M T M Jiffery medal for the best student. She became first in the all-island common merit list prepared by the UGC in 1998. Later she obtained MD (Paediatrics) and DCH (COL) from PGIM – University of Colombo in 2005 and was board-certified as a consultant paediatrician in 2007.

After completing her overseas training for two years in the UK she got MRCPCH (UK) in 2008, followed by FRCPCH (UK) from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK) in 2020, In 2002, Prof Gamage joined the Department of Paediatrics – Faculty of Medical Sciences as a probationary lecturer and became a senior lecturer in 2007. She became the head of the Department of Paediatrics in 2016 and was promoted to the post of Professor (Merit) in Paediatrics in 2022. She received the staff award for excellence in teaching from FMS at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 2021.
