Three academic staff members from the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura secured awards and accolades for their outstanding contribution to research at the CVCD Excellence Awards 2022. The CVCD Excellence Awards 2022 was held recently at the Orchid Hall of the BMICH. Senior Prof. M. M. Pathmalal, the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and current Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura wins the award for most outstanding Senior Researcher under Field III (Biological Sciences/Agriculture/ Allied Sciences).
Prof. Meththika Vithanage from the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Director of the Ecosphere Resilience Research Centre at the university won the award for most outstanding Senior Researcher under Field IV (Physical Sciences). Dr. Anushka Rajapaksha from the Faculty of Applied Sciences won the award for most outstanding Young Researcher under Field IV (Physical Sciences). The CVCD Excellence Awards had been held annually since 2006 to recognise the contribution of the academic staff of state universities in research and development.
This year’s Award Ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Ranjith Senarathne, Chairman of the National Science Foundation as the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour, Education Ministry Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe and University Grants Commission Chairman Sampath Amaratunge. The Committee of Vice Chancellors and Directors (CVCD), which was established under the Universities Act in 1979, acts as an advisory body to the UGC and comprises vice chancellors of state universities and rectors of campuses. The University of Sri Jayewardenepura conveys its congratulations and wishes them all
