World Children's Day & Elders' Day Celebrations at Lyceum Kurunegala

Tuesday, 11th of October 2022

Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. - Albert Einstein - We have stumbled upon yet another date of commemoration, celebrating children and elders. On par with World Children's Day & Elders' Day 2022, Lyceum Kurunegala painted the lushly green streets of Kurunegala in a mega Cycle Parade. The little Lyceumers, members of the staff, parents along with families cycled from the school premises through the streets of the city of Elephant Rock up to the historical and beautiful Lake Side through the winding pathways resembling a typical English ride, to reach the destination where celebrations continued with a grand carnival.

This was a breathtaking experience where the Lyceum Kurunegala family made fond memories of all children and adults. Amidst our busy schedules, we took some quality time to bond with one another and with our environment, as it is important to unplug and unwind with family and friends out in the fresh air under the blue sky. The celebrations included a ‘sports movement’, where kids and families learned the importance of cycling and ways in which cycling could be made a step towards a healthier life; and were asked to pledge to start their day with healthy sport and nutritious food.

We, at Lyceum, believe in a healthy and active life. We encourage our students and their families to keep fit and healthy both physically as well as mentally while succeeding in academics and developing other skills of importance. Health is the number one wealth we can accumulate as human beings. The day's agenda featured various fun activities including a number of dramatic entertainment sessions performed by the teachers, and it was abundant with music and food. The students, teachers as well as parents spent a few fulfilled hours surrounded by laughter and boisterous cheers. It was truly a celebration of both childhood and adulthood. The day's celebrations ended with a promise for the future, to reunite the next year in celebration once more.
