Monday, 15th of March 2021

The 2021 Ordinary Level evaluation process will begin on March 27 and the practical exam for aesthetic subjects will be held in May, Education Minister G. L. Peiris said recently. “More than 622,300 candidates sat for the examinations for ten days at 4,513 centres throughout the country,” Prof. Peiris said. There were 40 special examination centres set up in each district as a precautionary measure to accommodate COVID-19 infected students. The number of cases increased to 62 due to the high prevalence of COVID- 19 cases in the country.

In the face of the pandemic, a special classroom had been set up at each examination centre to accommodate new cases. Prof. Peiris said the arrangements had been made to hold the practical examinations for the aesthetic subjects in May, with the aim of students preparing for their practical examinations in March and April. Accordingly, the evaluation process would begin on March 27. “As a result we will be able to release the exam results in June and start A/L classes in July,” Prof. Peiris said. The GCE O/L Exams, which was earlier scheduled to be held from January 18 to 27 next year, was postponed taking into account the spreading of COVID-19 in the country. The Minister made these comments while participating in an inspection tour at Kotte Ananda Sastralaya which was an O/L examination centre.
