Royal out row S. Thomas’ at annual Regatta

Royal College, Colombo exhibited their prowess in water sports when they out rowed S. Thomas’, Mt. Lavinia at the 49th annual Royal-Thomian Regatta at the Colombo Rowing Club waters last Saturday. Royal scored their fourth successive win in the series to own the T. N. Fernando Trophy as Overall winners. Royal collected 38 points to S. Thomas’ 14 as their points came through in six points awarded events. S. Thomas’ started the event with a bang as Ashika Rathnaweera winning the A Scull with a time of 3.46 mts. There after the entire day was belonged to the Reid Avenue school winning the all important events. In between S. Thomas’ collected eight points in the A Double Scull with a time of 3.33mts over Roya l ’s 3.41mts. The much awaited A Fours Boat Race got off to a close start as S. Thomas’ led in the first 100 metres and Royal took the lead at the 150 metre mark. Royal led with one boat length in front at the 250 metre and led the 500metre with a half a boat length. S. Thomas’ made a desperate attempt to catch up at the last 250 metres but Royal reached the finish timing 3.7mts to S. Thomas’ 3.9mts.
