Tuesday, 18th of September 2018

Despite placing overall fifth at the Under-18 Asian Baseball Championship held in Miyazaki, Japan, the young Sri Lankan baseball team impressed at the competition, claiming two individual awards. Sri Lanka won three matches continuously -- twice against Hong Kong by 17-1 and 19-1 and against Indonesia by 15-14. With an overwhelming performance the Sri Lankan team was placed fifth behind South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Japan.

The most remarkable aspect of the tournament was two of the Sri Lankans claiming individual awards out of the total of 10 on offer. Dinith Kavisha was awarded the Best Designated Hitter and Lakshan Herath won the award for the Most Bases Stolen. This is one of the best achievements claimed by a Sri Lankan youth Baseball team at Asian level competing amongst top ranked teams such as Japan, South Korea and Chinese Taipei.
