Monday, 2nd of July 2018

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), held the opening ceremony of the 'ICT Educational Environment Improvement Project' at the Kalaiimagal School in Trincomalee last week. Th e ‘ICT Educational Environment Improvement Project’ is conducted by Kim Ji-Yeon, a computer education volunteer, and is designed to develop students’ ICT skills through hands-on ICT lessons by providing one PC per student who attends ICT classes at Kalaimagal School. For this project, KOICA provided 23 computers, computer desks and chairs, 3 air conditioners and beam projects, etc at a total cost of USD27,686.09, while the Kalaimagal School supported by providing the construction workforce and software installation, etc.

Kim Ji-Yeon said: "I had a lot of difficulties in delivering hands-on lessons due to the lack of computers. Many students did not know how to operate a computer at a basic level. I hope students’ ICT performance will be improved after this project.” He has been teaching ICT at the Kalaimagal School since March 2017 and hopes the upgraded facilities will increase students’ academic achievements in ICT. “I am grateful to KOICA and Kim Ji-Yeon for improving our ICT classroom, and I hope that more students enhance their ICT skills through this project,” said Yuvarajah, the Principal of Kalaimagal School.

KOICA is the grant aid organisation of the Republic of Korea. The Korean embassy said in a press release that the KOICA Sri Lanka office operates around 10 On-field Projects annually with a total budget of USD30 million to give volunteers an opportunity to find a problem and solve it in their field.
