Night Sky Observation Competition & Workshop for Star-struck students

South Asia's largest inter-school Night Sky Observation Competition & Workshop organised by the Astronomical Society of Mahamaya Girls' College Kandy and Ananda Astronomical Association, was held at the University of Peradeniya (UoP) Complex, with around 800 students from 85 Schools at the UoP premises throughout the night, with their Tutors The event was opened by UoP Faculty of Engineering Senior Lecturer Dr Janaka Wijekulasuriya, with most of the events held at the UoP Gymnasium This event was a gateway for young Lankan Astronomers to take an active interest in the Universe around them. There were competitions for spotting stars.

De Mazenod College Kandana emerged winners, while Nalanda College Colombo and Sangamiththa College Galle came 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ms Dammila Navaratne of Mahayamaya Girls' College and D. Athukorake of Ananda College were in charge of the event.
